Parker is threatened by Logan McDurmont who ends up dead the next day. Parker is assigned this case and is joined by Victor Lane, McDurmont's laywer. During their investigation, they stumble on another victim, Theo Madsen, another of Lane’s clients. The chapter ends with Parker being forced to team up with Lane for the unforeseen future. Criminal Justice (Chapter 5) What happened previously on “Parker & Lane”: Lane and Stella begin a romantic relationship, which Parker does not take well, causing her to blow up at her father and Stella. It’s confirmed that Theo, Logan and Vicky were all poisoned by a substance administered in food or, more likely, a drink. And the poison needs about an hour to take effect. Parker and Lane agree that the killer is either i) a competitor in the drug trade or ii) trying to stop the pills. They have a breakthrough in the case: Colin Walsh, who is now a senator, was Vicky’s lover and involved with the drugs. However, they disagree about Walsh’s involvement in the murders. Stella creates an antidote for the poison. Parker and Lane leave to confront Senator Walsh. Criminal Justice (Chapter 6) What happened previously on “Parker & Lane”: While confronting the Senator, Walsh is poisoned and falls unconscious. Parker and Lane agree that Walsh is not the killer. Parker concludes that the poison is being administered by ice slipped in the victim’s drink. A barrel containing an ingredient for the Sunshine pills is discovered, and blood, belonging to Justin Hall, and fingerprints, belonging to Logan McDurmont, are found on the barrel. It appears that Logan killed Justin. Senator Walsh confirms that he was having an affair with Vicky McDurmont and Logan, Vicky’s brother, was blackmailing him for the use of his contact list for the distribution of the drug. Parker’s father dies. Parker and Lane grow close, but this disintegrates quickly when Parker learns that Lane lied to her about not knowing Justin Hall. Justin was once a client of Lane. Lane is removed from the investigation. Parker suspects that Justin was framed 5 years ago in a drug trafficking case involving Senator Walsh’s shipyard. And she discovers that Lane lost his wife who died in childbirth while working on Justin Hall’s case. Parker goes in search of Lane.
